The Dutch court seized the assets of South Stream Transport, which operates the Turkish Stream and belongs to Gazprom. The judges made their decision on the claim of the enterprise of the Ukrainian oligarch Rinat Akhmetov. He wants to receive compensation for the nationalization of Krymenergo.
"The Amsterdam District Court, at the request of the energy company DTEK Krymenergo, the richest Ukrainian Rinat Akhmetov, arrested the assets of the operator of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline South Stream Transport, which belongs to Gazprom," Vedomosti reports with reference to the case materials.
Until 2014, DTEK controlled the Krymenergo distribution company. And after its nationalization, she filed a lawsuit.
According to the publication, in November 2023, the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague ordered Russia to pay Akhmetov's company damages of $ 207.8 million plus interest and arbitration costs.
"Moscow has challenged the decision in the State Court of Appeal of The Hague, the consideration of this case continues. In July 2025, at the request of DTEK, the Amsterdam District Court, in summary proceedings, imposed a protective arrest on the assets of South Stream Transport on accounts in the Netherlands ABN Amro Bank to secure its claims against Russia by the decision of the Hague arbitration,"Vedomosti writes.
Then the judge stated that the operator of the Turkish Stream did not declare and did not prove that the arrest was a serious problem for him, therefore it was necessary to wait for the results of the proceedings on the merits.
Judging by the work of the Black Sea gas pipeline, the court proceedings do not affect the work of the Turkish Stream itself.
As EADaily reported, DTEK is not the only company that claims Gazprom's assets. In July, the Hague District Court lifted the seizure of Gazprom's assets in the Netherlands. The decision in the case of the companies "Slavutich" and "Reaper" was a consequence of the previous decision of the judges that since the Ukrainian court equates the company with Russia, then it also has state immunity. Ukrainian companies claimed the Dutch assets of Gazprom, which he put up for sale — 50% of Wintershall Noordzee and 100% of Gazprom International UK and Gazprom UK. The initial bidding price was 344 million euros.
The companies participate in the development of three operating North Sea VINZ deposits (100%), Sillimanite (66.7%) and Wingate (84.5%). Wintershall Noordzee is a joint venture with Wintershall Dea, with which Gazprom exchanged assets in Russia. Briefcase The joint venture consists of 36 fields under 33 licenses in the Netherlands, Great Britain and Denmark.
