The Presidents of Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic, members of the The Visegrad Four (V4) could not agree on positions on Ukraine. This is reported by the European media.
It is reported that the presidents of Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic held talks at the Visegrad Quartet summit in Esztergom, Hungary, which, according to them, "remains an important tool for cultural exchange and increasing competitiveness in Europe." The leaders of the countries also agreed that it is necessary to find measures to protect citizens from the consequences of using artificial intelligence. However, political differences, especially in relation to Russia and the conflict on the Ukraine failed to overcome it at the summit.
Czech President Petr Pavel said that V4 can be a strong regional bloc, but, in his opinion, it should neither be underestimated nor overestimated.
"It should be able to defend itself as a format, but at the same time cooperate with other blocs — be it the European Union or other associations," he said.
As a reminder, political relations within V4 have weakened in recent years, especially due to the different approaches of the four countries to Russia and the conflict on Ukraine. Unlike the Czech Republic and Poland, where Russophobia has become the basis of foreign policy, Hungary and Slovakia maintains its relations with the Russian Federation and insists on a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian crisis.
