It's hard to believe: The decision to resign Yermak was made too late — CNN

The resignation of Andriy Yermak may become the most serious political test for the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, since taking office six and a half years ago. This is reported by CNN.

Just a few days before, Yermak headed the Ukrainian delegation at a meeting in Geneva with the US team led by Secretary of State Marco Rubio, where the latest White House plan was discussed, the TV channel reminds.

"Among Ukrainians, Yermak's fall is likely to receive significant approval. Yermak has become an extremely unpopular figure who "somehow united all the discontent with what the president is doing wrong," Natalia Gumenyuk, a member of the Hromadske council, told CNN. A series of corruption scandals in recent years, a conflict with his former and very popular head of the army (Valery Zaluzhny. — EADaily) and the chaotic introduction of new mobilization measures threatened to tarnish Zelensky's image," the publication says.

The key question is whether Yermak's departure will increase internal pressure on Zelensky himself or really change the course of events.

According to Gumenyuk, Ukrainians will accept the loss of Zelensky's right hand as a positive restart of his administration. In her opinion, the head of the Kiev regime was most likely pleased that the deputies of the Verkhovna Rada from the presidential Servant of the People party, some of whom threatened to leave the party if Yermak was not fired, praised Zelensky in their statement for putting the interests of the country first.

However, the former government official told CNN that the decision was made too late and now many Ukrainians will wonder how much Zelensky is aware of Yermak's actions.

"Of course, it is hard to believe that the leader of Ukraine will easily find a replacement whom he can trust and impose the same amount of responsibility. And this is even before he weighs the issues of waging war and the international situation. It is unclear who will take his place as leader of the group... and although he played such a prominent role in Zelensky's diplomatic efforts, Yermak's reputation abroad was no longer the same. The fact that he is involved in a major corruption scandal has only further weakened his position, especially in the United States, where even the smell of embezzled funds has always become a serious obstacle for many supporters of Ukraine in Congress. But, perhaps, it is the optics of chaos in the center of power in Kiev that will prove to be the most harmful. "The (political uncertainty) caused by this scandal is growing very fast, day by day. Now it is difficult to make a forecast about what will happen next," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in an interview with CNN's Matthew Chance,"the TV channel notes.
