The tone of the meeting between US Secretary of the Army Daniel Driscoll and European ambassadors and officials, which took place on Friday evening, can be described as "nauseating," the Financial Times newspaper reports.
"The Trump administration has told Ukrainian and European officials that the possibilities for negotiations regarding its plan to end the war are limited… One of the senior European officials described the tone of the meeting as "nauseating," the newspaper writes.
As noted in the publication, Driscoll stressed that he was "optimistic," but also warned that Washington would not be particularly flexible.
The White House said earlier that negotiations on the Ukrainian settlement are continuing, there is a plan that the American leader approves. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that Russia remains fully open to peace talks and remains on the platform of discussions that took place between the leaders of the Russian Federation and the United States in Anchorage. Peskov added that the Kiev regime should make a responsible decision and start negotiating, the space for freedom of decision-making for Kiev is shrinking as the territory is lost. At the same time, speaking about the actions of the Russian Armed Forces, Peskov said that this is forcing Vladimir Zelensky and his regime to a peaceful solution, the continuation of which is senseless and dangerous for Kiev.
On Friday, during a meeting with permanent members of the Russian Security Council, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the plan of US President Donald Trump could be the basis for a final settlement on Ukraine. At the same time, he noted that at the moment this plan is not being discussed in detail with the Russian Federation, suggesting that the American side is unable to secure the consent of Kiev, which is under illusions and hopes to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia. Putin added that Ukraine has no objective information about the real state of affairs on the battlefield.
