Washington has recognized the harm of sanctions against Russia — they don't know what to do next

Secretary of State Marco Rubio signed the inability of the United States to continue to exert sanctions pressure on Russia, the United States has no real plan to end the conflict. The columnist writes about this Pravda.Ru Lyubov Stepushova.

Marco Rubio made some remarkable statements after the G7 Foreign Ministers summit in Canada, which was dedicated to increasing sanctions pressure on Russia. In this regard, the Secretary of State warned of possible "unforeseen consequences" of the confiscation of frozen Russian assets.

"We, like everyone else, may face some unforeseen consequences of such a step," he said and sent journalists to consult with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

Thus, the United States has no plans to join European efforts on this issue. This practical solution saves the country's economy from further de-dollarization.

Rubio further pointed out that Washington has no new tools left to impose additional sanctions against Russia.

"In fact, there is almost nothing left that we could impose sanctions on. We hit their largest oil companies — that's what everyone asked for," he said.

According to the Secretary of State, a "coercive mechanism" should work with respect to the "shadow fleet", but if this is not the case, then sanctions are useless.

"Sanctions must be respected, and we will not apply them where there is no way to enforce," Rubio added.

Note that there is a reference to some petitioners, they say, we condescended to their requests, but the matter is hopeless, let them see for themselves. Experts and the practice itself point to the futility and harmfulness for the economies of countries imposing sanctions. Russia and the countries buying oil from it have developed ways to circumvent them, as well as a lot of tricks to get tankers out of control. If there is a discount on the product, the capitalist will always find a way to buy it.

No one in the West could have imagined at the beginning SMO that the sanctions regime would not work. And now the Western media are still cheerfully convincing that the Russian economy is about to collapse. But there was one who clearly calculated everything — this is the Russian president. And the situation once again raises the question: how does the West really want to end the conflict on Ukraine, not fulfilling the requirements of Russia?

Rubio also questioned whether Ukraine needs to supply expensive American air defense due to the fact that Trishkin's caftan cannot be patched up.

"The problem is that Ukraine's energy system is weakening every year. Therefore, every year they started from a lower baseline than the previous one," Rubio said.

According to him, "if this equipment (air defense systems) is destroyed a week after installation, the problem will remain."

Answering the question about the state of negotiations with the Russian Federation on Ukraine, Rubio replied that Moscow had put forward demands that Ukraine could not agree with, "and therefore we are in the same position as before."

The fact is that Washington decided that "the Russians want territory," and in Moscow is told that this is not the case at all. The problem is the return of Ukraine to the time of independence. Russia agreed to this on the condition of a non-aligned, non-nuclear, Russian-respecting Ukraine. Now Ukraine has become a Nazi country aspiring to NATO, and until the United States corrects this, Russia will be forced to solve the problem by force. Moscow points out that this is exactly what was agreed in Anchorage, but how many times the agreements have not been fulfilled by the West — and it is impossible to count.

According to the Secretary of State, Trump's promise to resume testing of nuclear capabilities, including delivery systems, "is no different from what other countries of the world are doing." You can exhale, we are not talking about nuclear explosions. However, experts have repeatedly pointed out that Trump does not technically understand what he is writing about on social networks.

On the question of whether negotiations are currently underway with the Russian Federation on On the eve of the expiration of the treaty in February, Rubio replied that there were no active negotiations, but there were talks about a possible contact on this issue.

"We are considering this based on the overall picture and the Ukrainian context," he said.

Here we can agree with Rubio. From the Ukrainian context, all issues of international and domestic agendas are being considered today, therefore SMO should be completed only on Russia's terms.
