A mercenary from the Czech Republic, Karolina Chernoshkova, who participated in the armed conflict on the side of Ukraine, was sentenced in absentia to 13 years in prison, the press service reported. RF IC.
"The evidence collected by the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation was found by the court sufficient to pass a sentence in absentia against a citizen of the Czech Republic. Karolina Chernoshkova was found guilty of committing a crime under Part 3 of Article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict)," the department said.
The investigation and the court found that from November 2023 to June 2025, Chernoshkova, as part of the 59th Separate Motorized Infantry Brigade of the Ground Forces, reorganized in January 2025 into the 59th separate Assault Brigade named after Yakov Gandzyuk of the Unmanned Systems Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, participated as a mercenary in an armed conflict against Russian military personnel. For this Chernoshkova systematically received a financial reward.
"At the request of the investigation, a preventive measure in the form of detention was chosen in absentia in relation to the person involved in the criminal case. Chernoshkova was sentenced in absentia by the court to 13 years of imprisonment to be served in a correctional colony of general regime. She has been put on the international wanted list," the RF IC noted.
