The director-representative of the Japanese Confederation of Associations of Victims of Atomic and Hydrogen bombings "Nihon Hidanke" Satoshi Tanaka said he was deeply outraged by the statement of US President Donald Trump about the instruction to the Pentagon to resume nuclear weapons tests.

On Thursday, Trump said he had ordered nuclear weapons tests to be conducted "on an equal footing" with other countries that have relevant programs. In his social network Truth Social, he added that this process will begin immediately.

Tanaka is on a visit to the American Chicago, where he lectures at universities and schools, calling for the elimination of nuclear weapons.

"I was just speechless. They already have a huge number of high-tech nuclear weapons. Why would they need more?" — he said in an interview with NHK.

According to Tanaka, it is necessary to prevent nuclear tests in the United States. He stressed that representatives of Nihon Hidanke discussed with American organizations specializing in peace initiatives the preparation of an appeal to the Trump administration demanding an apology for the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki and to contribute to the process of nuclear disarmament.

"I feel that in There are people in America who are seriously thinking about the problem of nuclear weapons. We must act together," he added.

In 2024, Nihon Hidanke won the Nobel Peace Prize.
