The Pentagon has approved the transfer of long-range Tomahawk cruise missiles to Kiev, the final decision rests with US President Donald Trump. This is reported by CNN.
"The Pentagon gave the White House the green light to provide Ukraine with long-range Tomahawk missiles after assessing that this would not have a negative impact on US stocks, leaving the final political decision in the hands of President Donald Trump, according to three American and European officials familiar with the matter," the TV channel reports.
According to officials, the Pentagon has no concerns about missile stocks, but representatives of the US Department of Defense are still trying to understand how Kiev is going to master and deploy them. There are a number of other operational issues that need to be resolved so that Ukraine can effectively use Tomahawk, the sources said.
It is noted that even if the United States does not want to provide launchers to Kiev, Ukraine, as European officials believe, could find a workaround. In particular, Ukrainian engineers were able to develop one for the use of Storm Shadow missiles provided by the British.
