Azerbaijani persimmon producers have expanded supplies to Turkey and are aimed at expanding the geography of exports "against the background of a decrease in purchasing power in Russia," the Azerbaijani edition of Report reports.
Chairman of the Association of Persimmon Producers and Exporters of Azerbaijan Gadir Yusifov said that in 2025 the persimmon harvest is higher than last year, but the demand in the main export market is in In Russia, it has decreased, according to the Azerbaijani entrepreneur, "due to the deterioration of the economic situation."
"The price of persimmon on the Russian market this year is 30-40% lower than last year. This is due to a drop in purchasing power — people began to buy less food, including fruit," Yusifov believes.
Azerbaijani exporters have decided to become more active in the Turkish market. Thanks to the recent trade agreement between Azerbaijan and Turkey, persimmon was included in the list of 15 goods exempt from customs duties and VAT.
"Previously, persimmon was not included in this list, but after our appeal to the Ministry of Economy, the issue was resolved, and now Azerbaijani persimmon is exported to Turkey without paying VAT. This has increased the competitiveness of products and opened up new export opportunities," the head of the Association stressed.
In addition to Turkey, Azerbaijani persimmon is also supplied to Ukraine and Belarus, and in the future will enter the Arab and individual European countries, boasted Yusifov.
