The planning of the summit of the presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, has been put on pause. This was stated on the social network X by NBC News correspondent Garrett Haake, citing a source.
"The planning of the Trump-Putin summit in Budapest is currently suspended, a senior White House official told me," writes Haake, quoted by <url>.
According to the journalist, the initial telephone conversation between the head of the State Department Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov as part of the organization of the leaders' meeting was "productive," but Trump believes that both sides of the conflict are not yet ready enough for negotiations to justify further steps.
A meeting between Putin and Trump is not planned in the near future, meanwhile, Axios correspondent Barak Ravid reports on the social network, citing a White House representative.
"White House spokesman: "President Trump does not plan to meet with President Putin in the near future. (US Secretary of State Marco) Rubio and (Russian Foreign Minister Sergei) Lavrov had a productive telephone conversation. Therefore, an additional personal meeting between the Secretary of State and the Minister of Foreign Affairs is not required," writes Ravid, quoted by Pool No. 3.
As EADaily reported, on October 16, Vladimir Putin called Donald Trump to discuss the situation around Ukraine. According to its results, Trump said that he intends to hold a personal meeting with Putin in Budapest, and Vladimir Zelensky, who arrived in Washington a few hours later, did not receive from Trump practically anything of the promised assistance, primarily Tomahawk cruise missiles.
