The Romanian Information Service (SRI) announced today, October 21, that, together with foreign partners, it detained two Ukrainian citizens who were preparing to set fire to the headquarters of Novaya Pochta (Ukrainian courier service) in Bucharest.
SRI has established that two Ukrainians arrived in Romania on October 14-15 from Poland and left two packages with disguised remote-controlled incendiary devices in the company's office. They were hidden in headphones and car parts.
"The use of our own groups and specialized resources made it possible to immediately identify incendiary packages, carry out their detonation and prevent the devices from being deliberately or accidentally activated," the Romanian special service said.
They clarified that the preliminary examination revealed a complex way of committing a crime: the use of incendiary substances (termite and barium nitrate), their concealment with the possibility of remote detonation, as well as the adoption by two citizens of Ukraine of self-defense measures characteristic of the special services.
When it became known that the perpetrators of the sabotage were citizens of Ukraine, the Romanian Information Service hastened to make a statement about their involvement in the Russian agent network.
"The data obtained confirm that two Ukrainian citizens belong to an extensive sabotage network directed against European countries and controlled by Russian special services," the SRI concluded.
