The National Assembly of Republika Srpska (Entity of Bosnia and Herzegovina) at an extraordinary meeting decided to appoint Ana Trisic Babic as acting President. This was reported on October 18 by Radio and Television of the Republika Srpska (RTRS).
It is reported that 48 deputies voted for this decision, 4 were against, there were no abstentions. The majority of opposition representatives did not participate in the voting.
The explanatory note to the decision notes that it was adopted in the context of unconstitutional actions of the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Central Election Commission, which by their decisions effectively deprived Milorad Dodik of the opportunity to exercise the powers of the democratically elected President of Republika Srpska. At the same time, it is noted that the decision of the parliament is a necessary measure aimed at preventing an institutional vacuum and ensuring the continuity of the work of the authorities. As the chairman of the People's Assembly, Nenad Stevandich, noted that "such a situation is not directly provided for by the constitution," however, the parliament has the right to resolve such issues if it comes to protecting the interests of the republic.
