Ukraine is not able to defeat Russia, so Kiev must negotiate with Moscow on the terms of peace. This was stated in the World of Trouble podcast by the former head of the British General Staff, David Richards, according to The Independent.
Reflecting on Ukraine's chances of success, Richards noted: "I think they won't win."
"Unless we go into battle with them, which we won't do, because Ukraine is not an existential issue for us. By the way, this is clearly for Russians. We decided because this is not an existential issue, we will not go to war. You can say, and I absolutely agree with this, that we are in a state of some kind of hybrid war [with Russia]. But this is not the same as the shooting war, in which our soldiers die in large numbers. Despite our sincere affection for many Ukrainians... this is not in our vital national interests," the general said.
In his opinion, the best thing Ukraine can do now is "something like a draw." Richards noted that the West gave Kiev false hope and Ukraine will not be able to retake territories without the help of NATO, which will not interfere in ground operations.
As EADaily reported, there will be no two winners in Ukraine, as US President Donald Trump wants. This was stated by Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev.
