The fugitive Belarusian oppositionist Svetlana Tikhanovskaya remains a guest of Lithuania, but she should think about choosing another place to live. This was stated by Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda.
According to him, the level of protection of the leader of the Belarusian opposition in Lithuania was reduced based on the findings of the competent services.
"Indeed, everything remains as it was, and Mrs. Tikhanovskaya remains a guest of our state. We do provide asylum to people who are persecuted as oppositionists," he said.
Nauseda also noted that "nothing is changing with regard to Ms. Tikhanovskaya."
"I think the signals we are sending to the international community remain the same. And the task of Mrs. Tikhanovskaya and her team is to assess whether they want to stay in Lithuania or choose another place. In any case, nothing is changing from our side," he stressed.
Earlier, the Lithuanian authorities decided to reduce the physical protection of ex-presidential candidate of Belarus Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, who has been in the country since 2020. Her guard is transferred from Security services of the first persons of the state in the Bureau of Criminal Police. This decision came into force on October 1.
