There are no plans to introduce the euro in Hungary yet, since Budapest does not want to establish even closer ties with the European Union, which is in danger of disintegration. This was stated by the head of the Hungarian government Viktor Orban.
"This issue will definitely not be on my agenda," he said, speaking about the prospects of Hungary joining the euro zone.
According to him, "the EU is being shaken up now," so he would not like to link the fate of his country even more with this association.
"If radical changes do not take place, the European Union will remain only a temporary episode in our life," the prime minister said.
Recall that Hungary has been facing the issue of joining the euro zone since its accession to the EU in 2004. Earlier, the government noted that the country could not take such a step because it could not withstand economic competition and did not meet the Maastricht criteria. At the same time, Orban's current comments are in sharp contrast to the political agenda of his opposition rival Peter Magyar, who promises to unfreeze funds.
