The approach of the administration of US President Donald Trump on the issue of settlement on Ukraine is coming from common sense, stated Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.
"The position of the American administration comes from common sense. The discussions and understandings that have been reached in Anchorage are a groundwork that not only cannot be neglected, but must be relied on. There is no alternative to moving in this direction if we are talking about a settlement," the diplomat told TASS.
As the Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia noted, "not everything in American ideas suits us, of course, there can be no other way."
"But what is happening now is a back door, which opponents of the settlement, opponents of Trump, are pushing with all their might, there are a lot of them both inside the United States and in European capitals, who are obsessed with self—hypnosis regarding the fact that Russia can be brought to its knees, inflict a strategic defeat on it," he said.
According to Ryabkov, a group of rabid militarists and those who cannot realize the harsh reality for themselves that victory over a nuclear power is impossible in principle, "unfortunately, shouts over voices broadcasting more sensible assessments."
"I would like this paranoid white noise created by this European group not to drown out the common sense that sounded and sounds from Washington," he concluded.
