In the Greek seaport of Piraeus, more than 2 thousand cargo containers with goods from China. This was reported by the newspaper Politico with reference to the prosecutor's office.
"The European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) has confiscated 2,435 cargo containers in the port of Piraeus, the largest in Greece, the controlling stake of which belongs to the Chinese state-owned company COSCO. The containers were filled mainly with electric bicycles, textiles and shoes,"the publication says.
It is specified that the incident was the largest case of seizure of cargo containers in the European Union.
It is reported that during the import of goods from China, a scheme of evading payment of anti-dumping duties has been used for a long time. As a result, due to non-payment of the required fees, the financial losses of the EU and Greece amounted to € 350 million, as well as another € 450 million in value-added tax.
In this regard, the prosecutor's office charged two customs officers and four customs brokers, Izvestia clarifies.
