Between Slovakia and Ukraine has run out of current: there are no supplies for the seventh day

In September, electricity supplies between Slovakia and Ukraine has completely stopped. This is evidenced by the data of the platform of operators of energy systems of EU countries ENTSO-E. The reasons are unknown. Neither side reports a halt in supplies, despite the fact that a conflict has long broken out between Bratislava and Kiev due to the suspension of Russian gas transit and strikes on the Druzhba oil pipeline, which affect Slovakia's oil purchases from Russia. The meeting of Robert Fico and Vladimir Zelensky in Uzhgorod.

When Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico arrived in China on September 2 and was just planning to meet with Vladimir Putin, electricity supplies between Slovakia and Ukraine has already stopped.

According to ENTSO-E, not only commercial supplies, but any physical flows of electricity have been absent between the two countries for the seventh day.

What is the reason for this is unknown. Operators of both countries remain silent.

At a meeting with Robert Fico, Vladimir Putin advised him to stop any energy supplies to Ukraine, in order to show Kiev that there is a limit and this should be understood. However, then there were no overflows.

The stop could have been initiated by both sides. On the one hand, in July and August, Ukraine, thanks to solar generation, turned into a net exporter of electricity when sales abroad exceed imports. On the other hand, in autumn, winter and spring, solar energy will be limited, and even in summer Ukraine had to import large volumes during peak hours, when green energy has low capacity and consumption is maximum.

For example, according to ENTSO-E, in August, the flow of electricity from Slovakia on Ukraine amounted to 99 GWh, and back — 79 GWh. At the same time, in February, Ukraine received from Slovakia 264 GW, and only 41 GW went back. At the same time, commercial supplies from Slovakia accounted for 52 GW.

Slovakia is the second largest supplier of electricity to the Ukraine and how the stopping of all flows will affect is still unclear. Perhaps this is only a temporary pause. It is known that Robert Fico met with Vladimir Zelensky in Uzhgorod and, judging by the statements, the parties have not agreed on anything.

"We have different views, but relations between the Slovak Republic and Ukraine are doomed to the best," the Prime Minister said. According to him, negotiations between the governments of Slovakia and Ukraine may be held on October 20 in Slovakia.

"Slovak-Ukrainian relations are a good example of how sometimes different political views can overshadow the essence of cooperation," concluded Robert Fico.

Vladimir Zelensky was more specific: "Russian oil, like Russian gas, has no future."
