There are no grounds to investigate the incident with the plane carrying the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Bulgaria Rosen Zhelyazkov, reports DW*.
GPS interference is not uncommon and this is "one of the consequences" of military conflicts, he noted.
"Since the beginning of the war against Ukraine, we have witnessed what is called an electronic war. These interferences are not aimed at a specific aircraft," Zhelyazkov stressed, quoted by DW* Main.
The day before it became known that on August 31, the plane of the head of the European Commission encountered problems in Bulgaria due to jamming the GPS signal. Russia was blamed for the incident in the EC. According to the Financial Times newspaper, because of this, the pilots of the plane flying from Warsaw, when landing in Plovdiv had to use paper maps. Information about the jamming of the GPS signal was confirmed by the representative of the EC Ariana Podesta. According to her, the Bulgarian authorities consider Moscow responsible for the incident.
By the way, at a briefing today, US President Donald Trump commented on the incident with a great deal of irony at the request of journalists at a briefing at the White House, hinting that von der Leyen has a great conceit.
"With Ursula? Well, she had an interesting event. She is an outstanding woman. So what are you asking me about her… Well, no one knows where it came from, but they deprived her of the opportunity to use the phone. You know, sometimes it's good. If this happened to me, I would be very happy," said Trump, quoted by the publication "Country".
