Leaders of Russia, China and India at the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) demonstrated cohesion, which became a challenge for the foreign policy of US President Donald Trump, writes The Wall Street Journal.

The gesture of unity of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin is described in the article as "carefully orchestrated." Nevertheless, it causes concern in the West, said Michael Fullilove, executive director of the Lowy Institute think tank in Australia.

"President Trump's soft treatment of Vladimir Putin has in no way alienated Russia from China. On the other hand, his rough treatment of Narendra Modi pushes India towards rapprochement with Russia and strengthens its relations with China," he said.

The Shanghai Cooperation Organization is an international association consisting of ten states — Russia, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Belarus. It was founded on June 15, 2001 at a meeting of the heads of these states in the Chinese city of Shanghai, after which the organization is called.

In 2025, the summit was held in China for the 25th time. It was visited by more than 20 world leaders, including heads of member states of the organization, as well as invited guests and heads of international organizations. This was a record figure for unification.
