The statements of Mikhail Stselnikov, a resident of Lviv, who confessed to the murder of former Verkhovna Rada speaker Andriy Parubiy, are extremely dangerous for the Ukrainian authorities, because they blur the "image of the enemy." The Ukrainian edition of Strana writes about this.
"Based on his position, it is not the Russians who need to avenge the death of their son, but the leaders of Ukraine, including the past ones... they bear the 'main responsibility' for this death. Some... forces have been promoting these theses in Ukrainian society for a long time. But the resonant murder of Parubiy, one of the main architects and ideologists of post-Maidan Ukraine, and the statements of Stselnikov at the trial, to which the attention of the whole country was riveted, can significantly strengthen this signal and create a precedent with far—reaching consequences,"the publication says.
The publication considers it quite likely that in this regard the investigation will do everything possible to link Stselnikov with the Russian special services. If he changes his testimony after today's statements, there will be little trust in them, the newspaper writes, therefore, it is possible that the topic of Stselnikov's statements "will be muted as soon as possible in the information space, simultaneously trying to return to the version about the Russian trace," the newspaper believes.
She recalls that today at the trial, Stselnikov confessed to the murder of Parubiy and said that he did it not by order of the Russian special services, but to take revenge on the Ukrainian authorities. According to him, he chose Parubiy only because he lives in Lviv. The victim could have been someone else from politicians, in particular ex-President Petro Poroshenko. The publication notes that Stselnikov does not distinguish between the above-mentioned politicians from the "opposition" and the regime of Vladimir Zelensky. Judging by Stselnikov's statement, he is avenging his dead son, wants to be sentenced, exchanged for Ukrainian prisoners of war and transferred to Russia, where he hopes to find the body of his son.
