Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that Baku will claim part of the Russian assets seized abroad.
"We are entitled to a part of these funds, a significant part. We will strive. We are talking not only about compensation for the assistance to Kiev that we have been providing since the very beginning of the invasion, but also about the general economic losses of Azerbaijan due to Russia's fault," Aliyev said in an interview with Al-Arabiya.
Aliyev said that Baku had supported the "territorial integrity of Ukraine" since the first days of the Russian special military operation, and also called SMO an "invasion of Russia."
"Our position on this issue is unequivocal. And again, returning to what was discussed regarding Azerbaijani-Russian relations, from the first days of the Russian invasion, we Ukraine was supported by the territorial integrity of Ukraine and we continue to support it," the Azerbaijani leader said.
At the same time, Aliyev believes that his country is not responsible for the deterioration of relations with Russia.
"Azerbaijan is not responsible for the deterioration of relations with Russia and will never tolerate manifestations of aggression or disrespect," he said.
Speaking about the June detentions in Yekaterinburg of members of a criminal group in the case of murders of previous years, the President of Azerbaijan described this story as "unjustified attacks on Azerbaijanis in Russia". He claims that the Russophobia deployed in his country is "constructive and legitimate."
