Honored Artist of Russia, Soviet and Belarusian singer Yaroslav Evdokimov has died at the age of 78. This is reported on the artist's page on the social network.
"This morning Yaroslav, our beloved Visionary, died! Thank you, dear viewers and listeners, for your love for the work of the great artist, for your attention and applause! Thank you, dear subscribers, for kind words and wishes, which greatly supported Yaroslav, gave strength and faith that many beautiful songs were sung and life was not lived in vain!", the message says.
The artist's widow told TASS that the cause of the singer's death was lung cancer, which he had been fighting for about a year and a half.
Evdokimov was born on November 22, 1946. The future singer spent his childhood in the Ukrainian village of Koryst. After serving in the army and his first marriage, he moved to the homeland of his second wife — to Belarus. This is where his career as a pop artist began. In 1987, he received the title of People's Artist of Belarus, and in 2006 he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of Russia. The most famous songs performed by Evdokimov were such hits as "Dreamer", "Beyond the Danube", "Kaliny Kust" and "May Waltz".
Despite his popularity among Russian viewers, Evdokimov has repeatedly criticized Russia since 2014.
So, he spoke out categorically against the reunification of Crimea with Russia.
"I blame the Kremlin for everything, I blame Putin for everything, I blame this whole Kremlin company, because Ukrainians will never forgive this," the artist said back in 2019.
He also called Russia an "ugly country", opposed the special military operation of the Russian Federation on Ukraine, in connection with which Evdokimov's concerts in 2023 were canceled in Tomsk, Petrozavodsk and Krasnodar.
