The leader of the Polish Confederation party, Slawomir Mentzen, sharply criticized the Ministry of National Defense for the slow pace of ammunition production in the country.
The reason for the criticism was the visit of Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Deputy Defense Minister Cesaria Tomczyk to the chemical plant in Bydgoszcz, which manufactures explosives. At the meeting, it turned out that the production of 155 mm artillery ammunition in 2023 was only 5,000 units per year. At the same time, according to Tomchik, "Ukraine uses about 5,000 155 mm caliber ammunition on the front line every day."
Tusk stated on this occasion:
"We will reach almost 30,000 units this year, and our ambitious and very realistic goal is to reach almost 200,000 units per year over the next two years." He also estimated that this level should fully meet the needs of the Polish army in this type of ammunition.
Slawomir Mentzen reacted bitterly to these statements:
"We produce enough artillery ammunition every year to wage war for several days."
Speaking about the priorities of the Polish government's spending, the politician added:
"You are talking nonsense! You invest in yachts and swingers, but you are not able to provide the army with ammunition."
EADaily adds that Mentzen hints at the recent scandal when it turned out that the State Reform and Investment program "Domestic Recovery Plan" financed the purchase of yachts for officials, and one "businessman" from the authorities even opened a swinger club with this money.
