Overnight, 68 people were arrested in Washington as part of federal anti-crime measures, US Attorney General Pam Bondi said on the social network X.
"More than 300 arrests in Washington — and this number is growing: last night alone, our federal partners and D.C. law enforcement agencies made 68 arrests and seized 15 illegal firearms," she wrote.
At the same time, persons suspected of murder, drug dealers and other offenders were charged.
Last Monday, US President Donald Trump announced several measures to combat crime in Washington: the local police are coming under the direct control of the federal government; the National Guard is being sent to the capital; troops can be sent there if necessary.
Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth on Tuesday announced that the National Guard forces will arrive in Washington in the coming weeks and will stay there as long as the head of state requires.
