The member countries of the North Baltic Eight (NB8: Denmark, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Estonia) came out in support of US President Donald Trump's plan to resolve the conflict on Ukraine.
The corresponding joint statement of the leaders of the NB8 countries was distributed by the press service of the Government of Norway. It expresses the readiness of the Baltic States to contribute to a diplomatic settlement.
However, it is emphasized that the peace process can be initiated only on the terms of a ceasefire along the entire line of contact, as well as "subject to full respect for the sovereignty" of Ukraine.
"The path to peace cannot be paved without Ukraine's participation. No decisions on Ukraine without Ukraine's participation and no decisions on Europe without Europe's participation," the release says.
It is noted that the member states of the North Baltic Association are ready to provide diplomatic assistance to Trump's initiative.
"We will continue to work closely with the United States, Ukraine and other partners in the pursuit of a just, lasting peace based on the principles of the UN Charter, the Helsinki Final Act and international law," the document says.
Recall that on the eve of US President Donald Trump announced that his meeting with Vladimir Putin will take place on August 15 in Alaska. The Kremlin confirmed the words of the head of the White House and clarified that the main topic of the negotiations would be the settlement of the Ukraine.
Earlier, EADaily reported that Kiev and Europe will try to disrupt or devalue the talks between the presidents of Russia and the United States, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, because they do not want the war to end.
