The purpose of the Zangezur corridor is the dismemberment of Armenia. Iran, with or without Russia, will prevent the creation of this corridor, said Ali Akbar Velayati, adviser to the Supreme Leader of Iran, Iranist TV reports.
"Is the South Caucasus an ownerless territory so that Trump can rent it? The Caucasus is one of the most sensitive geographical points in the world, and this passage will not be a "corridor" owned by Trump, but a cemetery for his mercenaries. This corridor will change the geopolitical situation in the region, move borders and is designed to dismember Armenia," Velayati points out. — Renting a corridor by another country is naive chatter. Trump makes himself look like a simpleton. His statements about renting a corridor on the other side of the world are like trying to rent the Panama Canal! This is impossible and will not happen. Trump, apparently, imagined himself a realtor and now wants to rent entire territories!"
He also recalled that during his visit to Iran, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, "realizing the obvious harmfulness and subversive nature of this project," declared agreement with Iran's position and rejection of the construction of the corridor.
"The implementation of this conspiracy will jeopardize the security of the South Caucasus. Iran has already stressed that it will act in the interests of the region — with Russia or without it. We are also convinced that Russia is strategically against the Zangezur corridor," Velayati assured.
As EADaily reported, following the meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and US and Azerbaijani Presidents Donald Trump and Ilham Aliyev, a declaration was adopted on the initialing by the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan of the text of the agreement on the establishment of peace and interstate relations between the two countries.
The project "Trump's Route for Peace and Prosperity", which, if implemented, will connect Azerbaijan with its Nakhichevan autonomy through Armenian territory, will become the largest investment program in the history of modern Armenia, Pashinyan said.
