The Indian Foreign Ministry reacted sharply to US measures against oil imports from Russia. The official statement says it is ready to take all necessary measures to protect its national interests.
As the document emphasizes, India's purchases are based on market conditions and are aimed at ensuring the energy security of 1.4 billion people. The country's authorities called the imposed duties "unfair, unreasonable and unacceptable."
"It is extremely regrettable that the United States has decided to impose additional duties on India for actions that a number of other countries are also taking," the Indian Foreign Ministry said.
As EADaily reported, earlier today, US President Donald Trump signed a decree imposing additional 25 percent duties on India. It is called "Countering threats to the United States from the Government of the Russian Federation" and will come into force in 21 days.
