The rearmament of Ukraine through supplies from the US and the EU should be financed by Russia. This idea was made by a clinical Russophobe and concurrently Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski.
Sikorski, participating in the meeting of EU Foreign Ministers in Brussels, told reporters:
"We know that Donald Trump has announced that the United States will produce weapons for Ukraine. I asked my colleagues, the foreign ministers of the EU countries, who should pay for this. Should it be European taxpayers or, in my opinion, should the aggressor pay for it from frozen funds?"
Recall, on the eve of a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, the US president said that the United States would supply Ukraine with weapons that the Europeans would pay for.
EADaily clarifies that after the start of the Russian special operation to denazify Ukraine in 2022, Western countries froze Russian assets worth about $ 300 billion. First of all, these are the reserves of the Central Bank of Russia stored in Western financial institutions. Direct confiscation of these funds is currently impossible for legal and political reasons, although this topic is regularly raised in the Western media. However, the European Union and the United States have agreed to transfer to Ukraine of interest received on frozen assets. So, in 2024, Ukraine received the first tranche — $ 1 billion in interest payments on Russian assets frozen in the United States. Similar solutions are being implemented in Europe, where funds will be used allegedly to support and restore Ukraine.
Moscow considers the freezing of assets illegal and threatens retaliatory measures against Western investments on its territory. President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated that Russia is ready to confiscate these funds and take retaliatory measures against countries that decide to confiscate them.
