In the center of Palma de Mallorca, tourists are increasingly encountering giant rats.
The Santa Catalina area of Palma, known for its trendy bars and restaurants, has recently gained notoriety due to the huge rats living there. Rodents can be seen not only on the streets; they are increasingly appearing on private plots and in residents' homes.
"The rats settled here, as if they had signed a lease agreement," write the Spanish media.
The British, who are among the most numerous foreign visitors to this resort town, report that the "surprisingly large size" of rats cause fear.
"They are the size of rabbits and terrorize the Santa Catalina area of Palma!," we read.
The reason for the invasion of rats was, apparently, the work on laying sewage in Santa Catalina. The ditches have been open for a month now, and residents are looking forward to returning to normal life. Meanwhile, local entrepreneurs fear that overpopulation of rats will damage the reputation of the area among tourists.
