The head of the office of Volodymyr Zelensky, Andriy Yermak, is behind the upcoming reshuffle in the Ukrainian cabinet, he wants to strengthen his control over him, the Financial Times newspaper writes, citing officials from Ukraine.
Verkhovna Rada deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak announced on June 16 that Zelensky's office plans to dismiss Denis Shmygal from the post of Prime Minister of Ukraine and change the entire government. He noted that the most likely candidate for the post of Prime Minister is First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy of Ukraine Yulia Sviridenko. Ukrainian edition "Country.ua", citing sources, wrote that this step could strengthen Yermak's influence, as well as distract public attention from the failures of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the front and from corruption.
"Yermak is organizing the current reshuffle ..., he is seeking to strengthen control over the government," the publication says.
In turn, as noted by the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Mariana Bezuglaya, Yermak wants to see someone as prime minister who is "his person 100%."
"That's why he promotes his protege, his student ... — Yulia Sviridenko," she added.
