The head of the Pentagon, Pete Hegseth, unilaterally decided to suspend the supply of military aid to Ukraine, NBC News reported, citing sources.
According to him, this is the third time that the head of the US Defense Department has made such a decision. On previous occasions, in February and May 2025, his decision was overturned a few days later. It is noted that Elbridge Colby, Hegseth's deputy for political affairs, also supported this decision, as he is a supporter of reducing US involvement in the conflict by Ukraine.
Other unnamed officials stressed that the decision to suspend the shipment of ammunition to Kiev was not made because of the depletion of weapons in US warehouses. According to them, stocks have decreased, but have not reached a critical minimum, TASS reports.
On July 2, The New York Times reported that the United States would suspend the supply of interceptor missiles to Ukraine for Patriot air defense systems, GMLRS precision-guided munitions, Hellfire guided missiles, Stinger man-portable missile systems and a number of other weapons. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry summoned the US Charge d'affaires in Thanks to John Ginkel for discussing this information.
