The West Kazakhstan region has undergone a large-scale locust invasion. This is reported by "Ural Week". According to experts, this has not happened for 10 years.
According to the head of the regional inspection of the Ministry of Agriculture Yerlan Orynbayev, this year there has been a significant increase in the number of locusts, which exceeds the usual figures. According to him, this is due to the natural cycle of reproduction, when every 10-12 years there is a surge in the population.
Orynbayev added that in some areas there is a settlement of both herd and non-herd locusts.
"Processing is carried out everywhere, equipment is involved. There are no complaints from the population, the crops are not damaged. The effectiveness of the measures is estimated at 90-92%," he said.
312 million tenge (50 million rubles) was allocated from the regional budget to combat herd locusts.
It is planned to process 134.5 thousand hectares.
