In June, Gazprom will carry out preventive maintenance work on the Turkish Stream gas pipeline, one line of which remains the only route of Russian pipeline gas to Europe.

Gazprom will carry out preventive maintenance work on the Turkish Stream in June. The materials of the Bulgarian GTS operator Bulgartransgaz say that from June 10 to June 14, the company will limit deliveries through the Strandzha 2/Malkochlar point on the Bulgarian-Turkish border. Russian gas from the Turkish Stream flows through it.

The operator himself is going to carry out construction work on the section of the gas pipeline and traditionally does it during maintenance work on the main gas pipeline. Bulgartransgaz reports that the capacity of the checkpoint at the border will decrease by 54% - from 55.8 million cubic meters per day to 25.7 million cubic meters.

However, the Turkish Stream itself will obviously stop completely and there will be no gas supplies. Last year, according to ENTSOG, the pipeline underwent preventive maintenance from June 4 to 8 and Russian gas exports were not carried out at all.

On January 1, Kiev stopped the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine, and the Turkish Stream remained the only route for exporting pipeline fuel to Europe.

Last year, about 16.6 billion cubic meters were supplied via the European line of the gas pipeline, with a projected 15.7 billion cubic meters. This year, deliveries may be higher, as part of the volumes that fell out of Ukrainian transit went to the route. According to the results of five months, exports via the European line of the Turkish Stream increased by 500 million cubic meters to 7.08 billion cubic meters. Gas is supplied under long-term contracts in Hungary, Greece, Serbia, North Macedonia and Slovakia. Local traders also resell them to Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine.

Since the beginning of SMO, Gazprom has reduced exports to Europe five times due to sanctions and counter-sanctions. However, the share of pipeline gas from Russia remains significant in Europe — about 10%. Without Ukrainian transit — 5-6%.
