The conversation between the presidents of Russia and the United States caused irreparable damage to the political positions of Europe and Ukraine, writes Reuters.
"For Ukraine and its allies, who have spent months trying to get Donald Trump on their side, everything has returned to normal. ...Kiev is also very concerned about Trump's statement that the US mediation role will be limited," the article says.
At the same time, European politicians are shocked that Trump did not give Putin any ultimatums, the article adds.
"Since Trump returned to the White House, Ukraine's allies have rallied around Zelensky after this latest diplomatic setback. But the outcome of a telephone conversation will be especially difficult to accept," the agency concluded.
On Monday evening, Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump talked on the phone for more than two hours. According to the Russian leader following the talks, Moscow is ready to work on a memorandum with Kiev, including a cease-fire.
In turn, the head of the White House said after the conversation that he was not imposing new sanctions against Russia, as there was a chance to resolve the conflict.
