Russian opera diva, soprano Anna Netrebko shone in the role of Leonora in the restored production of Giuseppe Verdi's opera Troubadour on the stage of the Berlin Opera, which was once again held to the accompaniment of Ukrainian protests. About a hundred activists gathered for the action, which was initiated by the Ukrainian organization Vitche, the portal Die Stimme Berlins reports.
The protesters covered themselves with Ukrainian flags, brought a Ukrainian ambulance to the place of the action. They chanted "Stop Russian propaganda," "There is no stage for Putin's supporters." Special fences were installed to ensure the safety of opera lovers. The spectators tried to quickly slip past the protesters, whose actions were closely watched by the police.
One of the opera lovers recorded a video message to someone.
"Look, Natasha. People just came to the opera and turned out to be the worst. That's what they're trying to prove to us here," he wonders.
Two years ago, when Netrebko returned to the Berlin stage, there were several times more protesters.
Until May 28, Netrebko will appear on the same stage four more times, all tickets for performances with her participation have already been sold out.
As EADaily reported, on September 15, 2023, for the first time in the last year and a half, Netrebko appeared on the stage of the Berlin State Opera as Lady Macbeth in Giuseppe Verdi's opera Macbeth. Even then, Ukrainians protested before every performance with her participation, but residents and guests of Berlin invariably buy tickets long before performances with soprano, whose owner is considered by many to be the best singer in the world at the moment.
