The Basmanny District Court of Moscow issued a verdict on the arrest of one of the organizers of the fraud against the participants of the special military operation (SMO) at the Sheremetyevo airport in the capital.
This is reported by the TASS news agency with reference to a source in law enforcement agencies. He said that the deception scheme provided for an initial offer from taxi drivers to military personnel to travel at a standard fare of one to two thousand rubles.
However, after the trip, the payment was overstated several dozen times. As a result, the extortionists demanded an amount that reached 70 or 90 thousand rubles, and sometimes up to 130 thousand rubles.
"The authorities of the preliminary investigation detained a person involved in a criminal case on embezzlement of funds from citizens. The court granted the petition and detained the accused Boglaev Dmitry Andreevich," the source said.
He clarified that the defendant was charged under Article 210 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Organization of a criminal community or participation in it"). According to investigators, he was the direct supervisor of the "beggars".
As EADaily reported, 23 people were arrested earlier in the case of fraud in Sheremetyevo, five of whom are police officers of the patrol and guard service of the linear directorate (LU) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
The investigation found that the police helped taxi drivers to look for potential victims. Another employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, an operative of the airport police, later refused to initiate criminal proceedings against the victims.
