The authorities of the Indonesian island of Bali have liquidated the so-called "Russian" and "Ukrainian" villages on their territory, which were formed in the form of ethnic enclaves as a result of the acquisition of real estate.

The head of the region noted that many Russian and Ukrainian tourists began not only to relax, but also became investors. They started to open a business and buy up real estate on the island.

"Some of them settled in one exclusive area. This was happening in Ubud. Basically, there were Russians, there were Ukrainians, and even the expression "Russian village" appeared. There was also a "Ukrainian village," Koster said.

He pointed out that this trend has led to the emergence of informal ethnic settlements. The Governor stressed that this practice contradicts local cultural norms and laws of Indonesia.

"Therefore, I demanded from the head of the Gianyar district and the chief of police to restore order. There should be neither a Russian village nor a Ukrainian village. If they live here, let them live in an orderly manner, in accordance with the laws of Indonesia, Bali and local culture," Koster informed.

He assured that after conducting inspections and taking legal measures, such phenomena on the island were eliminated. There is no Russian village or Ukrainian village in Bali anymore, the governor said.
