A scandal erupts in Europe over the sweet "legacy" of the great Mozart

Austrians are in revolt — Salzburg is deprived of the exclusive production of Mozart's famous pralines. The American giant Mondelez, which owns Mirabell, one of the most famous Mozartkugel brands, is moving production from the Austrian city of Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart, to the region in Eastern Europe, which has already caused fierce controversy, as the publication informs Profit.Ro .

It is important that the famous Mozartkugel pralines do not have a protected geographical indication, like champagne or parmesan.

Earlier this year it was reported that Salzburg lost the exclusive rights to the famous Mozart pralines. It's about a sweet souvenir wrapped in foil and decorated with a portrait of the composer in a wig, stuffed with marzipan, pistachios and nougat.

The factory, which produced 57 million original candies a year, closed at the end of last year after the manufacturer Salzburg Schokolade went bankrupt, partly due to a sharp rise in cocoa prices.

The local Pro-Ge trade union, which represents the interests of the company's employees, called the Mozartkugel factory "the heart of the region" and stated that the employees "are proud of the product that has become known all over the world." Although the sweets are of local origin, in recent years the license for their production belongs to the American conglomerate Mondelez International, the manufacturer of international brands such as Oreo cookies and Toblerone chocolate.

After the bankruptcy of Salzburg Scholade, which followed three years of attempts to save it, Mondelez announced that it would be looking for a new production site in its regional network. According to unconfirmed reports from the local press, the Czech Republic will be the most likely destination due to lower production costs.
