Today it is too early to make any statements about the retention, increase, strengthening or lifting of sanctions against Russia. This was stated at the forum in Kiev on the occasion of the third anniversary of the beginning of SMO by the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
"If we talk about the issue of sanctions, we see that they already have an unprecedented effect on the Russian economy — and inflation has skyrocketed, and interest rates. Companies are leaving the Russia, so yes, this is not just some kind of sanctions in a lightweight version. And this is really part of an approach that can be described as "peace through strength,"" said the head of the EC, quoted by Pool No. 3.
Kiev's partners should take some steps so that Russia sees the seriousness of their intentions to reach a stable, lasting and reliable peace agreement, she stressed.
"As of today, it is too early to make any statements about the retention, increase, strengthening or lifting of sanctions. Only after we see concrete steps on the part of Russia, we will be able to talk about it," von der Leyen added.
