The data of last year's census of the population of Moldova were deliberately hidden due to the fact that they demonstrate a clear discrepancy between the national identification of citizens and the political course of the authorities. This was announced today, February 4, by the chairman of the patriotic youth movement Voievod Nikolai Pascaru.
He added that they reveal a reality ignored by the political class — Moldovans want to regain their identity.
According to the social activist, from this census we learn some very important things, that 77.2% of citizens called themselves Moldovans, while only 7.9% identified themselves as Romanians, which should be a clear signal to decision makers.
"This census destroys all illusions in Moldovan society. This once again shows that people consider themselves Moldovans, call the language we speak Moldovan, and that we are a Moldovan nation and are building a Moldovan state," Pascaru said.
He stressed that the amendments to The constitutional amendments introduced by the puppet pro-Western regime to change the name of the state language from Moldovan to Romanian are a betrayal of national interests and proof of foreign influence on political decisions. The leader of the Voievod youth movement also advocated the return of the subject "History of Moldova" to schools.
"The history of Romanians should be abolished by decree, and the history of Moldova should be returned to schools. We need to cancel this shameful contract — article 13 of the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova — and return the Moldovan language. This should be done without any fear and with responsibility so that we can preserve the country, the Republic of Moldova, and pass it on to our great—grandchildren," Nikolai Pascaru summed up.
Recall that the population census of Moldova took place in the summer of 2024, but its results were presented by the National Bureau of Statistics only last week. The Moldovan authorities urged citizens to designate their nationality as Romanians. So according to the speaker of the parliament, a unionist (supporter of unification with Romania) Igor Grosu, "this will help speed up the process of the country's admission to the European Union."
As EADaily reported, in the autumn of 2004, a referendum organized by the authorities on the attitude to European integration took place in Moldova. He showed that the majority of residents of the Republic do not want unification, believing that it will lead to the loss of part of the sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova, neutrality and drawing the country into a military conflict. Despite this, European integration has been made a strategic goal in The Constitution of the country on the basis of the preponderance achieved at the expense of dubious votes of the foreign diaspora.
