The United States demanded that India get rid of the oil that was delivered from Russia on sanctioned tankers.
This is reported by Reuters, referring to the statement of the Deputy Minister of Oil and Natural Gas of India Pankaj Jain. He recalled that it is on this day that new US sanctions come into force.
"The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the US Treasury has made a number of clarifications. They clarified that February 27 is the deadline," the deputy minister said.
He also noted that the American authorities have set a deadline for the completion of all financial transactions with Russian oil — March 12.
Jain stressed that India is ready to continue buying oil from Russia, if it is sold at a price below the established ceiling of $ 60 per barrel.
But at the same time, the Indian side will refuse to cooperate with Russian companies and vessels that are included in the US sanctions list.
Meanwhile, Indian banks have already begun to delay settlements with Russian oil traders, which is explained by discrepancies in the interpretation of the restrictions imposed.
There is also information that the Indian side refuses to unload tankers that have been sanctioned and requires confirmation that oil has not been received from sanctioned suppliers.
Recall that on January 10, the United States imposed sanctions on Gazprom Neft and Surgutneftegaz. More than 180 tankers were also subject to restrictions.
Earlier, EADaily reported that the General Directorate of Shipping of India has increased the list of Russian insurance companies that can provide coverage to ships entering Indian ports.
