Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said that seven foreign mercenaries were detained in the country, his words are quoted by Clarin. Among the detainees are two Americans, two Colombians and three Ukrainians. They are accused of attempting to organize terrorist attacks.

"Just today we captured seven foreign mercenaries, including two mercenaries from the United States," Maduro said.

According to the Venezuelan president, from November to December, 125 foreigners of 25 nationalities were detained for the same reason.

"Fascists, imperialists, make no mistake about me. Make no mistake about the people of Venezuela, we are determined to win," Maduro said.

His statement was made against the background of the arrest in December of Argentine gendarme Nahuel Gallo, who was first accused of espionage, and then of plotting to assassinate Vice President Delcy Rodriguez.

On Tuesday, Maduro said that foreigners are planning to "commit terrorist acts against the world of Venezuela," calling them "fascist."

Maduro, who was re-elected president of Venezuela in July 2024, will take office on January 10, 2025.
