Accusations by Volodymyr Zelenskiy, Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico, of "opening a second energy front" against Ukraine are nonsense. This was announced on December 29 by Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar.
"We reject any nonsense about the opening of a second energy front, which Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky talks about unreasonably, as well as about some fictitious alliance with Vladimir Putin," he said.
Blanar stressed that Slovakia provides and will continue to provide humanitarian assistance to Ukraine within its capabilities. At the same time, he added that, despite the difficulties caused by the conflict, the Ukrainian side should not "create new enemies and invent the emergence of a second front." According to him, the states of the European Union, including Slovakia, support Ukraine and its people.
Recall that when the government of Robert Fico came to power in the fall of 2023, Slovakia stopped supplying weapons to Kiev. In addition, Bratislava advocated a peaceful settlement of the conflict and normalization of relations with Russia, which caused discontent among the Ukrainian authorities. Later, Ukraine refused to negotiate a transit agreement with Gazprom, which puts Slovakia in a difficult position. Fico admitted that in response Bratislava may stop deliveries to Ukraine of electricity. In response, Zelensky accused him of wanting to open a "second energy front" against Ukraine.
