Beijing demands that Chinese ships strictly comply with international shipping rules and considers it important to ensure the safety of underwater infrastructure. This was stated at a briefing, commenting on the incident with damage to two submarine cables in the Baltic Sea, by Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian, TASS reports.
"China has always fulfilled its obligations in shipping under the national flag, and we require Chinese vessels to strictly comply with relevant laws and regulations. We also attach great importance to protecting the safety of the underwater infrastructure," he said.
The diplomat added that he was not aware of the involvement of the Chinese vessel in the damage to submarine cables in the Baltic Sea.
Earlier it was reported that two submarine cables running along the bottom of the Baltic Sea and connecting Germany with Finland, as well as Sweden with Lithuania, were damaged on November 17 and 18.
As the Financial Times wrote, Sweden is conducting an investigation into the involvement of the Yi Peng 3 vessel registered in China in the damage of two submarine cables in the Baltic Sea.
