Is Russia preparing to defend against a nuclear strike? Mass production of mobile shelters has begun

In Russia, "with support at the state level," for the first time, the serial production of mobile shelters providing protection from the light radiation of a nuclear explosion and radioactive contamination of the area has begun. This is reported on the website of the developer — the All-Russian Research Institute for Civil Defense and Emergency Situations (VNII GOChS).

The production of the innovative modular protective structure "Kub-M" is deployed in the city of Dzerzhinsk in the Nizhny Novgorod region.

As Nikolai Posokhov, head of the Research center for the Improvement of Protective Measures at the All-Russian Research Institute of State Emergency Situations, emphasized, "the launch of mass production is supported at the state level." According to him, "the importance of such initiatives to improve security and improve preparedness for crisis situations."

"Kub-M provides protection for 48 hours from: air shock wave and light radiation of a nuclear explosion; penetrating radiation and radioactive contamination of the terrain; high-explosive and fragmentation effects of conventional weapons; falling debris of building structures; hazardous chemicals and fires," the developer points out.

The standard equipment of the shelter consists of two modules: a shelter room for 54 people and a technical unit. If necessary, the capacity of the protective structure can be increased with the help of additional modules.

The main advantage of this shelter over other protective structures of civil defense (ZSGO) — mobility, explains the developer. If necessary, it can be transported by road or rail to a new location for construction and connected to existing engineering networks.

Attention is drawn to the fact that the production, transportation and installation of the mobile "Cube-M" is more than two times cheaper than the construction of a stationary ZSGO, and the period of its manufacture and installation does not exceed three months.
