The US decision to approve strikes deep into Russia with long-range weapons is dangerous and reckless, with more and more such alarming information coming from the West. This was stated to TASS by the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov.
Earlier, the German cabinet confirmed that Washington had informed Berlin of the decision to authorize strikes deep into Russian territory. This is the first official information about the decision of the US authorities, previously there were only reports in the Western media.
"More and more alarming information is being received," Peskov said, commenting on reports from Berlin. "Indeed, this decision is reckless, dangerous, aimed at a qualitative change, a qualitative increase in the level of involvement of the United States in this conflict."
Peskov recalled that the discussion on this topic has been going on for a long time both in the countries of the collective West and in the Kiev.
"The position of the Russian Federation was clearly formulated by [Russian President Vladimir] Putin in St. Petersburg," the Kremlin spokesman said.
He added that Moscow's position is well understood and known to Western countries that supply long-range weapons.
"Whether they will take such a reckless and potentially dangerous step towards a new round of escalation of tension around the conflict, we will see. But the fact that such actions will not be left without proper reaction is unequivocal. President Putin spoke about this," the press secretary of the Russian leader emphasized.
As EADaily reported, earlier Washington, Paris and London organized a leak in the media about their permission to strike at Russian territory with American long-range tactical ballistic missiles ATACMS and, respectively, tactical missiles SCALP and Storm Shadow. So, The New York Times newspaper, citing officials in the White House, reported that the Joe Biden administration took this step after months of deliberation. According to the sources of the publication, the "green light" for long-range strikes was a response to the alleged transfer of the North Korean military to the Kursk region.
The first ATACMS strikes on Russia will take place in the coming days, Reuters writes with reference to sources. According to the agency's interlocutors, a modification of missiles with a range of 300 km will be used.
There is no official confirmation of this information from Washington, Paris and London yet.
