MEP Michael Galer, elected from the German Christian Democratic Union (CDU), welcomed the undermining of the Nord Stream pipelines.
During the plenary debate on the EU's crisis preparedness, Galer said:
"I do not know if they were Ukrainians. But even if there were, in my opinion, it was a legitimate goal — to deprive Russia of the opportunity to receive income from it."
It is worth noting that the topic of the pipeline explosion was first raised by the deputy from Alternative for Germany, Alexander Jungbluth. He drew attention to the fact that the infrastructure critical for the Germans was destroyed not by the enemies of Germany, but in fact by the allies.
"It wasn't our supposed enemies who did it. In particular, Ukrainians are suspected. In addition, politicians from the fraternal CDU parties at the EU level, such as today's Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, publicly welcomed the explosion. Explain to your group why you think our enemies pose a greater risk than our supposed friends?" Jungbluth said.
Hearing the political schadenfreude from Galer, Alexander Yungbluth exclaimed:
"You're bordering on treason!"
According to the deputy from Alternative for Germany, "anyone who tramples on the interests of his nation is intolerant as a German politician."
