The Supreme Court of Russia upheld the decision on criminal cases against ex-senator from the KCR Rauf Arashukov and his father Raul Arashukov. The Arashukovs will remain in prison for life.
"By the decision of the criminal collegium of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation of October 23, 2024, the verdict of the lower instances of Rauf Arashukov and Raul Arashukov should be upheld," the court said in a decision announced on October 30.
Raul and Rauf Arashukov were detained in January 2019. According to the investigation, they created a criminal group to steal gas from Gazprom in the amount of more than 30 billion rubles.
Senator Arashukov was detained right during a meeting of the Federation Council. He received a life sentence in December 2022. He was found guilty under a number of articles The Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, including the organization of several murders.
In September, the First Court of Appeal upheld the life imprisonment of Arashukov and his father. A week ago, another criminal case was opened against Arashukov Jr.: the investigation believes that he gave a bribe to improve his conditions of serving his sentence.
