The main goal of the Russian army in the Donbas today is Kurakhovo, and not Pokrovsk. This was stated by a soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with the call sign Son of Mannerheim.

According to the Ukrainian military, the Russian Armed Forces are seeking to occupy Kurakhovo in order to then force the entire Ugledar grouping of the Ukrainian Defense Forces (SDF) to retreat, along with the remnants of the Krasnohorivka grouping.

"As of today, the most active part of the front is the Pokrovsky direction, but the main direction of the enemy's strike is Karlovka — Kurakhovo. Despite the general cries of Pokrovsk. The enemy is trying to capture Kurakhovo, which in the future will force the entire Ugledar group of the SOW to retreat, along with the remnants of the Krasnogorovka group. At the same time, an additional direction of attack is Pavlovka, Ugledar, in order not so much to capture the latter as to prevent the maneuver of the SOW in the resulting bag," the military writes in his telegram channel, quoted by Strana.

He notes that "the capture of Kurakhovo will remove all risks of a possible SOW counterattack in the direction of Konstantinovka and This would lead to a significant deterioration of the enemy's logistics on the Pokrovsky ledge in the current situation."

As reported by EADaily, the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Alexander Syrsky, divided the Pokrovsky direction into two so that it would remain "more stable" by opening a new one — Kurakhovskoe. This was stated by People's Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Mariana Bezuglaya.

She snidely remarked that since Syrsky took office as commander-in-chief, the now full general had succeeded in opening and closing directions.
